Gan HaLev, The Jewish Congregation of the San Geronimo Valley, is an independent and unaffiliated group that started gathering in 1992.

Gan HaLev offers a unique, culturally rich, and socially and economically diverse congregation of people who want to participate in Jewish community in ways that are meaningful to their lives today. Our members come from various Jewish backgrounds and enjoy our Shabbat and holiday services , education for adults and children, and other events and activities in beautiful West Marin and Fairfax.

We are families with children, single-parent families, couples, and single adults of all ages, at all stages in the life cycle. We welcome you to join us.

If you are seeking an inclusive, inviting community in which to participate and experience Jewish life and worship and to explore Jewish identity for yourself and your family, we may be the congregation you have been looking for.

Our eclectic practice of Judaism lends itself to the nurturance of our spiritual, cultural, and intellectual growth. By giving yourself the gift of membership, you become a participant in this process and at the same time share in this unique community's development.

This year continues our transition at Gan HaLev. We are taking steps to turn Gan HaLev over to the next generation of families so that they can continue to build a Jewish community congregation for themselves and their children, and to make decisions that will sustain the congregation for the future.

Gan HaLev will continue to provide programs that will appeal to adults, and also continue all of our great programs for families with kids. Adult activities will include Shabbat gatherings, opportunities for civic engagement, learning, cultural events and programs. This year Gan HaLev will be joining the Marin Organizing Committee to involve members who are interested in civic involvement and social justice.

This year:

  • Our fees for membership and children's school tuition fees will be unchanged from last year. Membership is $600 for families and $400 for individuals and single parents. Sunday School tuition for children in pre-k through pre--B'nai Mitvah is $625 a year with a 10% discount if there is more than one child in a family. No one will be turned away from membership or school enrollment for financial reasons. Please call 488-4524 to confidentially discuss other payment arrangements.
  • We will be able to offer tuition scholarships this year to new and continuing students in our Sunday School, thanks to a grant from the Jewish Community Federation. So don't let the tuition fees be a deterrent to enrolling your children in our wonderful school!
  • We are becoming a cooperative congregation. Everyone who wants to be connected to the Gan HaLev community is being asked to make a firm commitment to volunteer for one or more jobs that are listed on the membership form. This is a requirement for membership. When you fill out your membership form, consider how you want to be involved and which jobs you can commit to. Families with two or more adults should commit to jobs for each adult in the household. If you're not sure what job you can do, check the box that says "I don't' know" and let us know what skills you have that you can contribute. We'll be in touch.
