The text of עוֹשֶׂה שָׁלוֹם ‘Osèh Shàlom (Make Peace) occurs in several places in the סִידּוּר Siddur Hebrew Prayer Book, including the בִּרְכַּת שָׁלוֹם Birkat Shàlom Blessing of Peace in the עֲמִידָה ‘Amidàh (Standing Prayer); and in the קַדִּישׁ שָׁלֵם Qadish Shàlém Full Kaddish and the קַדִּישׁ יָתוֹם Qadish Yàtom Mourner's Kaddish.
This melody was composed by Nurit Hirsh (1942…), the eminent Israeli songwriter, composer, arranger, and conductor.
In this arrangement, the A section is fugal, with the four voices entering two beats apart on differen notes of the alto melody's opening arpeggio. The melody then moves to the soprano part, and the voices pair up in parallel thirds and sixths, the middle pair answering the outer pair in contrary motion in the B section, and the lower pair answering the upper pair in similar motion in the C section. Although the melody switches to the dominant major key in the C section, the other voices vacillate between the tonic minor and the dominant major, imbuing the mood with chromatic tension before the song returns to the concluding B section.
