Qàrév Yom קָרֵב יוֹם expresses a longing for the twilight age, when peace will reign on earth.
In this arrangement, the alto carries the traditional melody throughout. In the A section, the first baritone parallels the melody in the alto, and on repetition the mezzosoprano and second baritone give a foretaste of the melody from the B section. In the B section, I have raised a few notes of the traditional melody a step in order to turn the melody into a pleasing round.
Small noteheads in the A section are not sung the first time around, but are sung on all subsequent repetitions. In the B section, the mezzosoprano and the baritones start singing at the starred note before the repeat, and stop singing at the starred note after the repeat, so that the ensemble grows stepwise from one voice up to four and back down to one.
